Problem:
Backups greater than 500M fail (partial backups sometimes complete, complete
backups always fail).

The script we have create for backups works flawlessly for combinations of EIDE
and SCSI2 systems (all EIDE, all SCSI2, combination systems). We are just
moving into this combination of LVD/UW drives. We are having no problems with
the data integrity on the hard drives. The problem is with the backups. Upon
check of the tapes, the backup is not complete and is asking for a second tape,
yet the tape is only partially filled (max 1/3 rd of capacity). Consistently it

is short by only a few files (of 19544 files, directories & links, 19479 are
backed up on complete backup).

Is there any similar experience with this? Is there any recommendations?

Thanks

Do you have the SCSI cable terminated ? the LVD drives are not self
terminating.
If you do not terminate the cable, you should get a warning from the
controller that
there is insufficient termination. You can continue, but you might get
problems like
you are describing.

Yes. Because there is a mixture of devices, primarily the Adaptec contoller is
using UW, the tape drive itself is terminated. I was unable to get anything
working without this termination. I have been able to get some complete backups
but NEVER under the cron.
