3D development

I just installed RTP 6.1. Looks like 3D/Mesa development disappeared… No
GL headers (but libs are still there).
Hope I can get this from somewhere, otherwise I can quit my project :frowning:

You should be able to use headers (or whole package) from previous version.
They probably did not include Mesa development because 3dfx is dead, but
libraries are still included to support Quake :wink:

Ok, I try that.
Even though 3dfx is dead, I use Mesa, which is of course slow, but it’s
still reasonable on a fast PC for simple 3D graphics.

I copied /usr/include/GLView.h and /usr/include/GL from RTP 6.0 to 6.1 and
it works.

However, considering

  • the libs (e.g. libGL.so) still use the version 1 of the standard libraries
    (e.g., libc.so.1), apparently they have not been recompiled
  • the 3D development headerfiles are not part of a standard RTP 6.1
    installation
  • the example programs are not there anymore
  • 3dfx is not available anymore which is was the only hardware-accelerated
    graphics card
  • QSSL is having problems to get specs from other hardware-aceelerated
    graphics card
  • haven’t heard anything about future plans with regard to 3D from QSSL

I’d like to ask how is it about the future of 3D development on RTP? Anyone
still cares, is it going to be abandoned or is QSSL working on some new
stuff (e.g., last year somebody said 3D would be integrated in Photon 2.1)?

But they still have ‘Criterion Renderware’ among packages. How amusing, what
does it use for 3D?
