WINS client for QNX 6.1

Hi,I am trying to get the QNX RTP 6.1 to work with our LAN and I have
run into a problem with the nameservers. Our Windows network uses WINS
and DHCP. QNX seems to be getting the nameserver addresses from dhcp
OK, however it does not seem to be able to use the WINS nameservers
to obtain host names.I have tried manually editing the
etc/resolve.conf file to add the nameservers directly but this makes
no difference. If I add the hosts into the etc/hosts file then I can
ping them on the network, however this is not the way I want to go.Is
there a WINS client available for QNX 6.1 ? Or am I missing something
?Thanks,-- David

Setting up a DNS server on Windows and have QNX 6.1 point to it.

Mario: put it the other way (DNS on QNX and route add default/gateway on
winxx) would be more transparent

  • agree ??

Don’t really know. Seem to me easier to just start dhcp.client
and let the dhcp server on the window box provide all the
information. I think on Windows you can have the dhcp server
talk to the DNS and WINS. All the machine that connects via the dhcp
server are inserted in the DNS.

Unfortunately I don’t think I can do this. Doesn’t Linux have a WINS
client ? Could this be ported to QNX do you think ?

I have tried to port tcpdump to see if WINS/DNS really is my problem
but I get an message saying libpcap cannot create a packet driver
interface, does anyone know how to fix this ? (Or somewhere I can
download a QNX tcpdump binary)

Thanks,

David

I’ve never used QNX, but as I was browsing the list of available software,

I noticed SAMBA is available! Samba will allow you resolve name via WINS.
Good luck,
