Internal Modem and CDROM

Dear newsgroup!

Yesterday, I’ve installed QNX RTP on my computer, but I still have got 2
serious problems:

  1. I have got in internal modem called “LASAT 560 V int”. This modem is not
recognized by QNX. What can I do?

  2. My CD-ROM drive is also not recognized. It is a Pionieer 4x speed
    (atapi).
What can be the reason for this?

So, if anybody can help me, I’d be very happy!!

Greetings,

Thomas

Hi Thomas -
I’m not familiar with your modem, however I would suspect it’s one of the
infamous “Winmodems”; if Windows reports it has a Rockwell or Lucent or
Connexiant chip or software you are probably out of luck with it in QNX for the
foreseeable future.
I had a problem where my BIOS set my CD as UDMA, and the new 6.1 devb-eide
disagreed. It was weird because I installed off the CD, rebooted, and couldn’t
install any more software off the CD! Anyway, I solved that by putting the
following into my /etc/rc.d/rc.local file:
devb-eide cam quiet blk partition=auto eide ioport=0x170,irq=15 &
sleep 2
mount -t cd /dev/cd0 /fs/cd

Other people have reported that the CD should be a secondary master, and not
secondary slave with no master, which makes sense, but some BIOS setups may
allow that to work in some cases…secondary master should always work.

Good Luck
