I know QNX4 does not support the the video chipsets of (many) later model
laptops but has anyone loaded 4.25 on a laptop, able to use 1024X768
resolution?
Which laptop did you use? Any recommendations? I need a portable
development system.
Thanks in advance
Walt
QNX 4.25 and QNX6.2 work fine at 1024x768 on my Toshiba Satellite Pro
4600. I believe it’s OK on some of the later Toshiba’s also. Network
works fine also, but not modem (understandably) so I use a [real] PCMCIA
modem with no drama.

Geoff,
Much appreciated, I’ve tried it on an OmniBook, Presario, several Dells
mixing and matching drivers but no luck getting over 800x600. You’ve given
me hope and a direction.
Did you install both 6.2 and 4.25 on the same machine, allowing a choice on
power up?
Thank You
Walt

Yes, both are on the laptop, along with Windows 98. It’s about 18 months
old now and I doubt still available. But a friend of mine purchased a
[later model] Toshiba mid last year and as I recall, like me, had no
trouble with the video with QNX4. I don’t think he installed QNX6 on it.
The beauty of the Toshiba (in my case but I’m not sure if it remains
this way) was that everything came with it. I didn’t have to swap out a
floppy drive to get a CD drive, or anything else, for example. It gives
me a problem at some airports though, when they want me to take out the
battery…
But my laptop is very definitely elderly now, and in regards to current
models what I say may not still apply. It’s an age old problem with QNX
on laptops: no vendor has ever allowed me to “test” with a new machine.
With the Toshiba I had to take pot luck. As it happened, I got lucky.

Geoff,
I found some Satellite Pro 4600 laptops on Ebay !! Anyway, I noticed that
the latest Satellite Pro uses the nVidia Geforce4 video chipset. QNX4
supports Geforce2 and I wonder if it will work ( Pg.tnt ) It gets expensive
to buy one and find it does not work.
All the more reason to migrate to 6.2, which I will be shortly once I get
some hardware issues sorted out.
We’ve just released a new produce under 4.25 and I’m sure I’ll be making
changes in the field hence my need not to lug around a desktop!
Thanks again

I’ve recently bought an Acer TravelMate 230LC. QNX4 runs ok Don’t know about
sound card, though.
Never used it on QNX4.

Older Toshiba 490CDT, 4020CDT works great.
