What! my computer doesn't have a pci bus?

Sorry if this is something of a newbie question. I’m trying to install
Qnx 6.2.1 non-com. on an old Hitachi laptop purchased in 1996. I burned
a copy of the qnx install cd. The laptop which currently run win95 will
read the cd. However, when I boot from the cd it locks up early in the
boot sequence and says “/dev/pci did not mount”. I tried changing bios
settings (pnp os), several of the boot options (it does get that far)
and they don’t seem to make any difference.

the following is everything I see when I tell it to be verbose

Starting slogger -s32 -l /dev/text
Starting seedres
starting pci-bios
pci_server: PCI_Startup failed! /dev/pci did not mount

I’ve tried the boot option the gives pci-bios a “-m” argument and it
makes no difference. Is there a way to bypass this part of the boot
sequence?

Has anyone succeeded with something similar to this?

Thanks,
