/bin/Fsys terminated

I run QNX-4.25 and for any reason i receive the message /bin/Fsys terminated
(SIGSEGV) at 005:0012b1a .

the message come at any time twice a week. Sometime during the day when the
system is loaded with many application and sometimes during the night when
there is no load!

Is it a hardware or software problem?

Do you see a lot of information appear on the screen? We would need all
of the information that appears. Also, can you give us the output of ‘sin
ver’,
‘sin ar’ and ‘sin’.

Thanks
Donald

The system react this way:
-Nothing special appears ont the screen. Just the message /bin/fsys
terminated (SIGSEGV) at 0005:00016f29 … at the console.
-Lost of the root filesystem.
-Unable to do sin or ls or whatever after that.
-Still have the prompt #.

Include output of sin ver, sin ar, sin:

P.S. You have a french name. Do you speak french?

Could be either.

Is this machine on a QNX network? If so, collecting information will

Thank you for your help David,

The machine is on a QNX network and on a standard ethernet tcp/ip network
(2 interfaces cards). What kind of information could we collect?

You should use traceinfo:
After a reboot, increase trace severity to 6: “tracectrl -s6”
Start driver in verbose mode: eg. Fsys.eide -vvvv … &
post output of “traceinfo -R”, “traceinfo” and “ls /dev”
and if you have not sent it yet, send “sin ve” “sin ar” “sin ir”
When the problem occurs, you should be able to get this information from
another node on your network, since this is information held in Proc’s
tracebuffer, as long as the networking is still up…

Chris

wouldn’t running dumper also help? And get it to
save the file over the network.

Hey Chris

Here’s a thought. There should be a Proc command line option to set the
traceinfo level. That way you could catch things that happen at startup.

I would actually run tracelogger, and have it point to the file system
on another node. You might not be around to catch the traceinfo right
after the crash, but if tracelogger is dumping information accross the
network, you can look for anything in it.

Also, as Mario Charest pointed out, I would run dumper, and point it
accross the network as well. Then if/when Fsys crashes, you can
capture the dump file and send it to us.

If you haven’t done so already (I haven’t checked the back-thread),
please also post the output from “sin ver” on the machine.

So:

tracelogger -f //other_node/tmp/tracefile &
dumper -d //other_node/tmp/ &

Wow Dave, you work fast.

Actually I’m still on 4.24G where I’m working right now and that version
doesn’t have it. But it’s nice to know that if I could ever get this
company to upgrade to the latest and greatest that this is in there.
