Boot ROM for 3C905B

I want one of my QNX computers on a 100 Mb network to boot from a boot ROM.
Does QNX make a boot ROM for 3com 3C905B TX-NM network cards.

We had some major problems with the 3com 3c905b card and QNX drivers.
Recommend you upgrade to the 3com 3c905c card, which has a completely different
tulip chipset. We switched to the $29 Bay Networks Netgear FA310TX. Not
sure about the boot rom though. The only experience I have is with WinSystems
NE1000 compatable 10Mb cards and qnx boot roms.

You have the following option available to you from Corman Technologies for
10/100 Mb cards:

I also received a note recently that Corman updated their own driver to work
with full duplex. So you can either use Corman’s driver or QNX’s driver, but I
don’t think QNX’s driver supports full duplex on this card yet. One caveat:
The Corman cards are expensive.

A quick search on the qnx site turned up the above info, but it looks like qnx
hasn’t updated their boot rom product since it supported only 10Mb cards. Your
best bet would be to call a sales reb to see if they sell them anymore, and if
they have upgraded them to support 100Mb cards.

Have you looked into using BOOTP ROMS? You don’t need a special
QNX ROM… just a vanilla BOOTP ROM, and a BOOTP server that will
give a QNX image to the booting computer.

I think ours is called `bootpd’, but in theory, you could have
any BOOTP server feed the image to the machine. It’s pretty much
the same image that goes into the .boot file on a hard drive.

QNX doesn’t make boot roms for any of the newer adapters. Your best bet
is to contact Lanworks, who have been taken over by 3Com and get bootp
roms from them. If you purchase the latest 3Com 905C TXM adapter, it
has the bootrom built in.
