We have a strange problem, the combination of the Adastra Neptune or Adastra VNS
motherboard and QNX 4.25 cause it to hang when executing a simple program like
writing a block of data to /dev/nul and then printing “alive”. What is really
annoying is that it hangs after a random period; anywhere from a couple of hours
up to 48 hours. Using the same software on a normal PC the system has been
running for days, with no problems.
Has anyone had similar experiences?
We are running QNX 4.25 patch A (it also does it with patch C (beta)). We’ve had
it happen with and without the network driver loaded, as well as using EIDE and
disk on chip.
Another, possibly related issue, is that when probing for the network adapter
the nettrap hangs, however, there is an issue related to this in Patch C which
could resolve this.
We are waiting for the CD installation program so we can try similar experiments
with Patch D.
If anyone has any ideas we’d certainly appreciate them.

I’ve been working with a VNS786 for over a year. I’ve never
seen a hang like the one you described. My Proc is 4.25J.
I had a lot of trouble getting the network to work right,
but I found if you throttle down to 10Mbit instead of 100,
it worked.
