Ether 82557 device driver

Hey All,

Has anyone tried using the Net.ether82557 with the Intel 82559ER
device. I believe this is the correct driver to use with this device,
but we seem to be having some problems with it. We’re not sure at this
time if it is a board problem or a driver problem. The documentation
for the driver does not indicate what devices are supported.

Thanks All

John

John,

You may need a newer driver. What version of the os and patch level
are you using??

Sorry, I guess I should have told you that you need the D patch for
QNX 4.25… The updated Net.ether82557 driver that supports the 82559
is included in this patch.

Heather or Whoever

We are using the latest release version of the driver. Along with the latest
version of Net. ie 4.25 patch d dated 25 Apr 2000. We did get this version of
driver working with a 82559, but at present the driver does not appear with
the 82559ER. I would like to know if the driver has ever been tested with the
ER version of the chip.

No, but looking at the intel page, it says it is the same(similar) as the 82559,
but then it says that the new drivers will work with the older chip revision,
but not the other way around?

From http://developer.intel.com/design/network/82559ER.htm:
Upgrade Path to Standard 82559

  • Same package and footprint
  • Intel supported 82559ER drivers also run on the 82559

Is it recognized with “show_pci -v”? if so post it.

We found the problem we where having have been able to run the Net.ether82557 driver
with the 82559ER chip. It is recognized by show_pci with a device ID of 1209. So I
guess you can say that it has been tested.

Thanks for the help.

I’m also having trouble getting Net to run with Net.ether82557
and a SBC that uses the Intel 82559ER. I’m hoping that my
problem is similar to yours.

show_pci returns the save value you show above.

Can you let me know what you had to do to solve your problem?

Thanks

Hi John,

You used the QNX 4.25E version of the driver? or did someone give you an updated version?

E.
