Missing Operating System

Quick question,
I just put QNX onto a small 500 MB partition on the beginning of an 80 GB
hard disk. When I run it on one machine, it has no problem loading it. It
boots up correctly.

However, when I move the drive to another computer, turn it on, it runs the
QNX loader, but returns the error “Missing Operating System”. I move the
drive back to the original computer, it works fine.

Is this a BIOS problem that would prevent the loader from working correctly?

TIA,
Ron

That well could be yes, check to make sure the LBA mode
is set the same on both machine.

I checked that. At first it was using LRG (Large) mode, but I manually set
it to LBA and it still gave me the same problem.

Here’s how I handle this situation. Put the drive in the
machine that it boots from ok. Once booted, use fdisk on the
drive and take a look at the config information:

Config: 255 Heads
63 Sectors/track
555 Cylinders

for example.

Now, move the drive to the new cpu. Go into the BIOS and
adjust things as you like. Boot off of a floppy, and then
start your disk driver. Run fdisk, and see if the values
match. If not go back to the BIOS and try again.
