21x4x controller

Hi,

a question about the ethernet controller market: is dec’s 21x4x still
alive?
If so, has anyone experience with actual network cards using a dec chip?

Background: can’t longer get adaptecs ana6911, their new one has an own
chip.
Informations would be very helpful for further product plan.

TIA

Intel bought out DEC, but I don’t know whether they are still producing
adapters with the 21x4x chipset.

Watch out – commercial plug following!

I don’t know if Intel sells network adapters with the previous DEC chipset,
but we do! Our 100TX cards are based on the Intel 21143 controller, and
come with a QNX network driver. We also have QNX boot ROMs for our network
cards. You can check them out on our web site at www.cormantech.com.

Hi Bert,

thanks for your response.
Do you have your own network drivers or does the standard Net.tulip work?
How long will intel manufact that chips?
Who are your distributors in germany?

Hi Friedhelm,

We provide our own QNX network driver with the card. Net.tulip will work
with our card, but our driver is optimized specifically for our card. The
main benefit is that auto-negotiation always works (a non-trivial
accomplishment).

As for how long Intel will continue to make the chipset, I’m afraid that Mr.
Intel doesn’t confide in me very much. Seriously, to the best of my
knowledge Intel currently has no plans to discontinue this chipset.
However, even if we are forced to switch chipsets at some point in the
future, we will continue to ensure that you get a working QNX network driver
with every card we ship.

As for distributors in Germany, I’m just the techie guy here! I’ve
forwarded your request to sales here, and they should be contacting you with
the necessary information.

Regards,

Bert
