QNX4.25D and the Net.ether1000

Hello,

I have a laptop with two QNX partitions. One is QNX4.24 the other was QNX4.25.
I had no problems starting Net & Net.ether1000 on either system.

I just upgraded to QNX4.25D from the June2000 CD. Now Net.ether returns errors
10 & 04. I can still boot the QNX4.24 partition and it still works. The
/etc/config/pcmcia.cfg and /etc/config/pcmcia.cards are the same for both
partitions. I have tried to run the 424 versions on the 425D system to no
avail.

What changed? and how can I fix it.

Thanks for your support

Kevin,
First step is to run ‘pin’ in both of them and make sure the card is
mapped into the same place.

Is the Net.ether1000 started via PcmciaLaunch or in the sysinit? You
may have run into a timing issue if it is directly invoked.

I just upgraded one of my laptops (4.23->4.25D) because I was playing
with a D-Link 650 card and had no problems - my Linksys NE2000 card
works just fine in both.

Jay,

Thanks for the quick response! I had been following your threads re:
your D-Link 650. I am using the Linksys combo card.

on the 424 system, pin reports a NE2000 type card at p300, i3.
the 425 system reported the same thing.
the new 425D system reports a Network type card at the same location.

since I don’t connect this laptop to the network very often, I just run
a batch file to start Net and Net.ether1000.

The weird thing is that the Net drivers worked this morning with the
original 425 download version I got off quics and installed 6 months ago…

Try a process of elimination. Copy the Pcmcia.generic from the 4.24 partition
to your tmp directory and run it from there. If it still does not work, try
the same with Net.ether1000.

I am two steps ahead of you. I can mount the 424 partition under 425D as /424/ and I
slayed Pcmcia.generic, started the one in /424/bin. Then I started the
Net and Net.ether1000 drivers. I got the same errors as if I was running the 425D
executables.

Hi Kevin,

Did the Linksys combo card work under 4.24? Just making sure.
What is the exact chipset on the card?

Thanks

The card has worked for every version of QNX since 4.23. It even worked
for the 4.25 version contained in the initial .tar file on quics. Just
since I upgraded to Patch D from the CD has it not worked. Strange…

This is strange, as Net.ether1000 has not been modified since July,1998!
What is the date of your Net.ether1000?

It is dated July 24, 1998. 29917 bytes. The one on my 4.24 partition
is dated Mar 26, 1997, 28345 bytes.

I am a little scared to re-install the qnx425.upgrade.tar.F, dated
Aug 27, 1999, 6420687 bytes as I am in heavily development mode. If I
need to copy some large files, I just reboot to the other partition
and start Net.ether1000 just fine. This is more of a pain than a
real show stopper.

When I run ‘Net.ether1000 -vvv -p300 -i3 -l2 &’ I get the following

But, the card works just fine under 4.24 and on windows…

This sounds like a width problem to me. Have you tried removing the
(width=16) for the entry for this card in the pcmcia.cards file?

Thank you. Sorry for the delay, I have been out of the office.

I checked the contents of both 4.24 & 4.25 pcmcia.cards files with vedit,
they looked the same because vedit did not show the whole line ( and I
did not fully check!). That was exactly the problem. I removed the
(width=16) and I am networkin’.

Thank you again.

BTW, what is the make and model of this ethernet card?

The card is the Linksys EtherCombo 2.0.
