/etc/install

I recently downloaded some .tar.F archives but install instructions call for
a ‘/etc/install’ file. I downloaded and installed from the latest QNX 4.25
ISO. Where do I get the install program?

It is there on QNX4.xx systems installed with floppies.

Hi Rick;

Chris’ system was installed with a CD and it doesn’t appear to have been
there.

OK.

But it’s just a simple shell script. I’m sure you (QSSL) can provide
him?

from /etc/install:

fcat filename.tar.F |
pax -rv -s,install_msg,/dev/tty, -s,^setup$,/tmp/setup, $*

you can leave out the -s stuff on archives that do not contain a setup
script

The install utility "should’ have been included in your QNX 4.25 installation.
All you do is run /etc/install -u filename.
You should be logged in as “root” and be in the root directory.
