3c905CX network card

I ordered a 3c905 card and got delivered a 3c905cx. Needless to say, I can’t
make it work under QNX 4.25D. Net.ether905 just quits with no message at
all. Before I send the NIC back, is there any prospect of this card working
under QNX4? (Or is it the normal 3com trick of changing the last letter and
changing the whole chipset at the same time??)

No, don’t send it back! Please post the output from ‘show_pci -v’. We do
support the 905C, but maybe 3Com have changed the device ID.

OK - you asked for it >

There is also a NE2000 clone pci NIC fitted, just to get some network
connectivity going. The 3com card would not work even before this was
fitted.

We are using 3com 3C905C-TX-M cards quite extensively for 100Mbps work with QNX
4.25. Not sure of the patch version. Sin ver gives 4.24J Feb 17 2000 as the
driver version. We do however pass explicit -i9 on the command line. Can’t
remember if that is necessary.

I do know that an earlier version didn’t work. If you are still in trouble and
can’t find this version on quiccs, I could send it to you.

We are using 3com 3C905C-TX-M cards quite extensively for 100Mbps work
with QNX
4.25. Not sure of the patch version. Sin ver gives 4.24J Feb 17 2000 as
the
driver version. We do however pass explicit -i9 on the command line. Can’t
remember if that is necessary.

I do know that an earlier version didn’t work. If you are still in trouble
and
can’t find this version on quiccs, I could send it to you.

Thanks - I’ve made some progress this morning. This was my sequence of
actions:

Installed QNX from December 1999 CD.
Net.ether905 would not find the card.
Installed NE2000 card in addition to 3c905 to get a network running.
Copied QNX 4.25D update from another machine and installed it.
Tried new Net.ether905 which refused to work.
–made first posting to this news group–
Obtained Intel Pro100 NIC and swapped it for the NE2000.
Intel card works fine, BUT 3c905 starts to work!!!
Much card swapping later I determined that the NE2000 cardmade the 3c905
driver fail in some way.
Thus if only 3c905 fitted all would work once the 4.25D update had been
applied - it was the NE2000 card leading me astray.
