Fsys RAM disk

I am using Fsys to create a RAM disk while a system is running. To do this
I use the command “Fsys -NFsysRAM -c0 -r3M &” to start up another instance
of Fsys for the RAM disk. This works most of the time, but sometimes it
crashes the shell or other running processes, they die with SIGSEGV signals.
Does anyone know why this isn’t working all the time? I am using Fsys from
4.23A and switching to another version is not possible.

Marc.

Look into the vdir utility instead of using Fsys.

Beware that vdir is slower then real HD if size of ram disk is large. I
don’t recall the exact number but I beleive ram disk of 64M on a Pentium 500
ended up slower then the
local hd.

It is shipped with, I think, QNX 4.25. I don’t think anything that
it does won’t work in 4.23A, though.

Is there any documentation for this? If I mucked around the use vdir
information might get me there but the note above that the thing is very
slow is a bit of a turn off. What is the point of it in this case? Docs
might help. Did a search on the website but only came up with the fact
that it is new in QNX4.25D

I do that regularly and didn’t see any problems so far. I use 4.25 though.

4.25 seems to work fine, but QNX4.23 and also QNX4.24 made troubles with
ramdisk in our application (we had to return ramdisks to hd, from 4.25
we again works with ramdisk.)
