3C905 - could it be?

Hi All.
I have 3Com905tx4 NIC installed on Dell PowerEdge1300. When starting Net &
Net.ether905 manually(no ‘nettrap start’) with pointing io-port and
irq-number to driver and utp-cable is plugged it works ok. But when I reboot
PC without cable plugged in NIC it hangs. All drivers and commands (i.e.
netmap -f) are running from sysinit.
If I rem corresponding lines from sysinit and after reboot MANAULLY from
command line start Net & Net.ether905 its sill ok. Then after ‘netmap -f’ or
‘netinfo -L1’ PC hangs again. The cable still is plugged out.
When I do the same things with cable plugged in NIC it works fine.?

Could it be ?

Thanks for attention!
Oleg.

We have run into this. What is happening is that the auto-negotiation
routine is spinning (although it is blocking on a timer since it doesn’t
completely lock the machine). Try specifying a fixed speed to the
driver (I haven’t tried this since we chose to simply use an earlier
version of the driver that didn’t do this, but it might solve the
problem).

So the answer is yes, it can be and it is.
