What user/password for swat?

I’ve just installed samba 2.0.7, which I got from the QNX website. I’m
trying to use swat, the web admin tool for samba. When I point my web
browser at port 901 of the QNX4 machine runing samba/swat a dialogue box
pops up requesting a user name and password. I’ve tried root and its
password, a standard user id and password, but nothng seems to work.

Can anyone offer advice on what the user id/password is supposed to be, or
perhaps i have a deeper authentication problem with it all?

thanks

hmmm… perhaps it’s time for a FAQ

samba 2.0.7 is linked with the fixed crypt lib from QSSL. (I think this
is mentioned in the accompanying readme file.) Make sure your system is
patched with this security patch. You can download this patch from the
updates site from QSSL. (You need to have access to this area, which
would be the case if you registered your QNX4 license.) Note that if you
patch your system, you also need to apply the other required patches for
login, tcp/ip, qwindows, etc… (in other words, all programs that
authenticate)

If you don’t want to patch your system, there’s a workaround: try to
create a new model account (perhaps on a test system which is already
patched, or by using a util which generates compatible new model
encrypted passwords). Manually copy this encrypted password to your
current system’s shadow file.

If all of this doesn’t work, then perhaps there’s a configuration error
somewhere.

good luck,
rick
