Scitech drivers for QWindows AND ATI Rage Mobility-P AGP

I have installed QNX Windows with the Scitech drivers on a laptop
computer having an ATI Rage Mobility-P AGP video card. When I conect an
external monitor every thing works fine. But when I use the LCD screen
of the computer, at the moment the driver start, the screen become
scrambled. I have removed the driver from the sysinit, and when I start
gatest it freeze the computer before any writings apear. If I have an
external monitor gatest perform normaly.

When Windows is started with the external monitor I can switch back to
the LCD screen and it work fine. I gess the scitech driver have some
problem to detect hardware at initialisation if the external monitor is
not plugged. I’m sure someone have encountered this problem before. Can
anybody tell me what to do ?

Hi!

I’ve read your message and I can tell you I have similiar problem with ATI.
I could not start scitech driver at all. It outputs “Unable to create
database” and sometimes “could not set compatible graphics mode”. But I dont
try to use external monitor.
Several monthes ago I used scitech with Dell PowerAge and ATI Rage was
installed. It worked fine.
And, dont you use Dell latitude with ATI mobility? If do, please, maybe you
could describe how you start scitech on it?
And you actual notebook configuration.

Any answer will be greatly apriciated.

Thanx in advance,
Oleg.

I recall having this kind of message after changing the node number in the boot
image. Because there is a directory with the node number in the
/etc/config/scitech directory. I simply renamed the old one with the new
number.

I don’t know if this is your problem but maybe you could check the permissions
in this directory.

Sorry, I use Compaq Armada E500

For the little experience I have with the scitech driver, the simplest way to
see if it work is to start gatest. Every times the menu appeared when I started
gatest every thing was working fine. In normal operation I start
/usr/lib/windows/bin/gr.scitech -B -g 1024x768 & in the sysinit.

In the past I had the same problem (gatest freezing the computer before the menu
should appear) with a desktop computer with an s3 card. I had solved the
problem by replacing the card with an ATI Rage IIc. This is the first time I try
to install QNX on a laptop computer. With this computer it worked the first
time, fortunately the external monitor was plugged at this time.

Thanks for your answer.

BTW I met situation when gatest did not work, but gr.scitech did.
