QNX ported scitech: error messages

Hi there, here’s my problem, I’m using QNX 4.25 patch D and QNX windows
4.24 patch A(these were installed with the new CD installer method). I’m
trying to use an AGP graphics card with an S3 Trio3d2x chip on board. I put
the environment statement in the sysinit file that loads the scitech driver
gr.scitech and when it tries to load I get ‘loading Windows server on node
8’ and then these two messages: ‘SCREEN: no graphics driver’ and ‘SCREEN:
can’t init console/screen/fonts’ I have verified that the drivers are
installed and in the right locations and this combination of software works
on two other machines already.

Hi David,

Do the other two machines have the same hardware as the non-functional machine.

Yes the other machines are using the same video card, s3 trio 3d2x which is
listed as supported on the scitech website.

Hi David,

The Scitech install that was giving people headaches if their
node number was not “1”.

To get around it, I think you had to duplicate some entries
under /etc/config/scitech.

Maybe the “odd machine out” has a node number other than 1…

Hi Joe, I’m not sure what you mean by ‘duplicate file entries in scitech’.
Right now there is only a file called monitor.dbx in the scitech directory.
These graphics log files come from /etc/config/scitech/x/config/
directories.(x meaning node #) Node 5 is the one that is working however I
can’t see anything wrong with the node 8 log either.

Hi David,

OK, if the /etc/config/scitech//config directories exist, then
it is not the installation problem that I though it might be.

Looking at the graphics.log files, it looks like the card that does
not work has a different PCI id than the card that does work,
so the cards are not the same…

Note that there is a utility called “gatest”, which can be used to test
the scitech driver without loading QNX windows. If gatest works
on one card, but not on the other, then it must be a problem with
the scitech driver.

To get around it, I think you had to duplicate some entries
under /etc/config/scitech.

Maybe the “odd machine out” has a node number other than 1…

Hi Joe, here’s the latest developments; gatest ran on both machines with no
problems. I took the AGP card from node 8 and put it in node 5 and the
scitech drivers loaded with no problem. I’m wondering what the ‘SCREEN: no
graphics driver’ and ‘SCREEN: can’t init console/screen/fonts’ message could
mean? The machines have pretty much the same hardware although I think node
8 is running a pentium 2 while node 5 is a pentium 3. I’m sending you a
couple of sin capture text files to see if there is anything you can spot
there, node 8 is right now running with and older PCI card which you can see
from the sin command display.

OK, if the /etc/config/scitech//config directories exist, then
it is not the installation problem that I though it might be.

Looking at the graphics.log files, it looks like the card that does
not work has a different PCI id than the card that does work,
so the cards are not the same…

Note that there is a utility called “gatest”, which can be used to test
the scitech driver without loading QNX windows. If gatest works
on one card, but not on the other, then it must be a problem with
the scitech driver.

node number was not “1”.

To get around it, I think you had to duplicate some entries
under /etc/config/scitech.

Maybe the “odd machine out” has a node number other than 1…
