Installatiuon parameters for QNX

Hi!
I need to install QNX to a DiskOnChip however I don’t have the install files
on CD or Disk. I can run the install off the hard drive but was not sure
what paramters i should use to force QNX to install off the hard drive.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Bill

M-Systems has what you need to install QNX to the DiskOnChip.

Go to http://www.m-sys.com - download the QNX4 support package.
It includes the instructions you need to install QNX4 onto a
DiskOnChip.

Well, I have the document however, the settings they list don’t specify that
you want to install from the hard disk.

Any other ideas?

Again, Thanks!

I guess don’t know what you mean.

When I installed their package to a DiskOnChip, I installed it
from a hard disk using their instructions, and IIRC, it just worked.

I have their Installation Manual IM-DOC-016 dated July of 2000.

What problem are you having? Perhaps I can help if you have a
specific question.

Ken:

Here’s where I am.

I tried doing the install using the install -d -p “n:hd0” command.

When it starts the install, it says “The software package will be installed
from the drive: /dev/fd0”

The people who installed QNX on the drive had a custom-built install disk.

I am a little at a loss as to where to go next.

Thanks!

Bill

I think I see what you’re seeing now. I’ve only used DiskOnChips less
than 16 MB, so I didn’t use the procedure you are using. They assume
you are using the standard QNX install program, which demands a floppy.
Also, the install program assumes that the installation files are part
of an install archive - which doesn’t exist on your hard disk.

So, I’d recommend installing it manually.

If you follow the steps in the M-Systems document for installing
the diskonchip manually, I am pretty sure it will work.

It looks to me like the only reason they included the special section
in the document for diskonchips larger than 16MB was because diskonchips
smaller than that do not have enough space on them to contain an entire
QNX installation.

I have not tried this, though, so you may have to adapt.

Good Luck!

Thanks once again, Ken.

I was able to follow the <16mb installation (the manual one) and it looks
like I can install to and boot from the DOC rom. Is there a way to make
sure all the appropriate QNX OS files are installed on the DOC? Are there
special directories/folders I should ensure are copied down?

Thanks!

Glad you got it going.

As far as required files go, it totally depends on what you need
your system to do. I think the m-systems manual installation procedure
picks up most or all of the files that are absolutely necessary. From
then on it’s up to you to copy over the files you need for your
application. Most systems that use the diskonchip are embedded
systems with widely varying requirements (network, tcp/ip, gui, etc),
and since each major module requires licensing, and extra cost, most
folks only copy over files they absolutely need to have.

Getting the first one up is the hard part.
