pcnfsd with TCP/IP 5.0

Since I’ve installed TCP/IP 5.0, I cannot access the exported directories
via NFS from my Windows PCs. This worked with TCP/IP 4.25.
Any suggestions?

TIA

Do any other machines have problems mounting the exports provided by
the QNX box?

There are no problems mounting from QNX4.25-, QNX6.1- and DEC-UNIX-machines.

What happens at the time of the failure? Is authenication refused or
does the pcnfsd utilit sigsegv. If it’s sigsegv’ing you could be using
one of the older betas of tcp/ip 5.0 → this has been corrected in the
released 5.0. If it’s an authentication error, it could be two things:

  1. pcnfsd will refuse authentication to users with a uid < 100. This
has been documented and fixed(can change via config file) for later versions

  2. When installing TCP/IP 5.0, the 5.0 archive is dependant on a fix fo
the OS (4.25) where the encryption for the user passwords was updated. This
means that the OS security update must be installed first. One test is to
see if you can ftp to the host instead of using pcnfsd. If you cannot login
with ftp, then the OS security patch must be installed.

I get an authentication error for an user with uid > 100. The user can login
via ftp without problems.

What program are you using to provide NFS services on the Windows machine?
If it’s a shareware/demoware/freeware implementation perhaps we can
try and recreate the problem here. Make sure all your userid’s fall
within the range of 101-60002. Can you provide a cksum of the executable
and it’s date, as well as a “sin ver”

The NFS client is NFS Maestro Solo 6.1.0 from Hummingbird. The userids are
in the range from 3000-6000.
The pcnfsd is from Jan,10 2001, has the cksum 2604438011 and the length is
70581.
