We have a QNX 4.25 computer running on the internet as a server. We do
not run DNS on our server. DNS is resolved by a second computer (NOT
qnx). we can receive mail just fine. But when we try to send outgoing
email we get an error - “Relaying denied”.
Do we really need to run DNS on our server?
We have added the IP address to the /etc/mail/access. But no help.
Anybody got any ideas??
Thanks,
Larry

What version of sendmail are you running? Most MTA disable mail relaying
by default. You should get a copy of the Sendmail bible (the Bat book)
from OReilly.

It is version 8.9.3. I read in one of the threads (I think) that sendmail
required DNS on the local machine. We have DNS hosted on a separate server.
There is also a reference in sendmail.cf that says:
MX map (to allow relaying to hosts that we MX for)
Kmxserved bestmx -z: -T
I did get a BAT (sendmail) book in the morning. But, looking at it on
Amazon. It is a big book. I also have not reviewed the TCP/IP manual.
Thanks for the help…

We have 8.9.3 here, DNS is on a separate machine and we have not
had this problem. There are a couple of readme files that I found
helpful - one in the cf dir and one in the main dir.
