Virus

HI,

According to QNX knowledge base, there is no such thing as anti-virus
software for QNX.Why no viruses can affect QNX the same way as they do in
Windows World?

Thanks in advance,
Krupa

sure viruses can affect qnx world but usually folks who aware how to write

There are far less weakness then in Windows, plus virus writter like the
publicity,
which they won’t get with QNX.

In over 10 years, I’ve never seen nor heard of a virus on QNX. Doesn’t
mean there won’t be one though

Thanks in advance,
Krupa

Viruses like the recent one can affect QNX systems if they are running SAMBA
and are networked
to a Microsoft network. As in this case it just involved many, many copies
of the virus on the QNX
hard drive, but no way to run.

Ian is right! QNX programmers have better things to do with their time.

Some of the tricks that work for Windows don’t work for QNX – there
are the same scripting tricks, etc.

The majority of QNX systems are embedded or otherwise not connected
to anything that could infect them.

QNX, particularly QNX4 does far less “under the covers” than DOS/Windows,
it is far easier to tell what is happening and what is being run.

There isn’t any anti-virus software yet, because there is yet to be
a virus seen/known on QNX. If noone is threatened, there is no market
for selling the anti-virus software, and it isn’t worth writing.

And, in fact, there is much reason for writing a QNX4 virus – and
there are a couple of dis-incentives. The combination of cost of
a development system, and lack of volume of targets being the main ones.

Now, with the wide distribution of QNX6/RTP, both of these have, to some
extent, gone away. I still don’t see it as anywhere near to occuring.
Among other things, there is a fair bit of learning curve.

Does anti-virus software exist for Linux?

Much reason? Or did you mean “not much reason”?
