Copy to a DOS Floppy Disk

I am running QNX 4.24 and have found that when copying qnx files to a DOS
floppy disk (adopted by Dosfsys) the floppy disk is sometimes corrupted.
Symptoms are that although the file is listed by Win9x File Manager I am
unable to open or copy the file. Norton Utilities reports that there is a
FAT file error. The problem occurs intermittently. Sometimes Norton fixes
the problem, sometimes not and I try again. I have seen this problem on
another PC, yet some PCs never show the problem.

Help appreciated - Graham Dalby

One thing that comes to mind is to ensure that you wait not only until the
copy command returns to the command line, but also until the floppy disk
light goes out. Dosfsys and friends does heavy write-buffering, so if you
copy a huge file to the floppy, the “cp” command will return to the command
line shortly, but the driver is still copying data… There might be other
“tricks” as well…

An updated to QNX 4.25E might help solve the problem.
If you can’t upgrade, I think you can grab the lastet Dosfsys from 4.25
and use it on 4.25.

For the record, the latest Dosfsys is called Fatfsys. You’ll also want to
grab mount_dos. I think that’s what it is called.

Thanks - I think moving to 4.25 is probably my best bet

Also, try typing ‘sync’ before removing the floppy. Or you can umount it.
