sin ne hangs; ideas?

Hi folks,

System with 12 licenses (8 “old” 4 “new”); netmap files look ok, Net.ether509
running on all machines.

Two problems:
o when doing a netmap -f, we get some “Net rejected” for nodes 3
and higher (nodes 1 and 2 are booting off their disks; nodes 3
to ten are diskless)

o doing a “sin ne” on any machine takes a long time to display
the node information for other machines on the net.

I think this is something simple and stupid that we’ve done…
Anyone?

Thanks!

Missing licenses or use try using Net -n 10 on the diskless machine.

Thanks!

We checked for licenses, by “sin in” and “licinfo -a”, both indicated
that there were 12 nodes…

The -n12 thing fixed the Net rejected message, but we still get the
long delays on the “sin ne”… (another symptom is that our VCs seem
to be “going away” after some time…)

Hi Robert

I’ve seen this. It was a pain to figure out. But let me confirm, your
seeing this on th server (disk hosted system) not the diskless workstations,
right?

No, on all nodes. :frowning: AFAIK the netmap files are being read from the
machine using the “-m $(netmap)” /boot/images option to Net. As per Mario’s
suggestion, I added -n 10 and that cured the “net rejected” errors, but the
sin ne slowness persists…

Do you have more then 10 namelocs ?

Are all the machines in the netmap accessible ?

If you do sin vc do you see some vc on machines that are not there ?

Nope, just two (node 1 and node 2)

Are all the machines in the netmap accessible ?

Some may be powered down… Are you saying “can I do an sin -n”
between all the machines? I’ll have to check…

If you do sin vc do you see some vc on machines that are not there ?

Not that we’ve noticed; generally we see about 3 vc’s from the diskless
machine to the server, and over time (30 s) these “go away”…

We have seen that if a node is up and known to other nodes, then goes
down, all other nodes will slow down extremely when running anything
that is trying to access information on another node.

Try playing around with the time options in nameloc. Our solution was
to set all namelocs to monitor only its own nodes. (i.e. for licensing
needs
only)
