Multiple o/s'es on one machine

I’ve installed QNX4 (v4.24 – client req’t), W2K and QNX6, in that order, on
a new machine. W2K and QNX6 boot fine. However, when I boot QNX4, “mount -p”
fails – it says can’t mount the partition, “no space left on device”, and
that “the partition does not fit within the disk”. I had carefully segmented
the disk so that all three o/s’es
would fit. Is there a way to get QNX4 to boot?

Sounds like an OS disagreement in geometry has resulted in partitions that
do not fit within the disk. Please post “fdisk info” for the drive.

Unfortunately, that is NOT the output of “fdisk info” … :-/

It sounds like your Fsys.eide doesn’t understand the drive geometery. I
think you will need to upgrade to a newer Fsys.eide.

What is the date of your Fsys.eide?

BTW, is this is the problem, you may need to re-dinit the partition and
reinstall everything from scratch.

What John says is true. Do the fdisk info.

But this does show that this is a 40 GB drive and you will definitely need
the latest Fsys.eide.

QNX4.24 does not work with disks larger than 8M.

try to exchange /bin/Fsys.eide (only this file) by
Fsys.eide (hopefully it is not scsi, in your case)
from QNX4.25 (version from 18 Nov 98).

With this trick I have used some bigger disks with QNX4.24
and it works fine.

Andy

Yeah, I was hoping it wouldn’t mind just taking a small partition on a big
disk, but I’m going to install 4.25 now.

Thanks for all the comments

4.25 won’t install, either. It tries to mount the drive and gets the same
error message.

Incidentally, QNX4 did boot from the hard drive after I installed it. I then
installed W2K and QNX6, at which point QNX4 started having this problem.

some stupid ideas only:

  • check BIOS setup (LBA mode)
  • after booting QNX4 from CD try to launch fdisk, remove 79 a 12 partitions
(temporarily) and then launch driver and mount -p (may be, mount has problem
    with t79
  • try to set up driver parameters by yourself (btw. is it scsi or eide ?)
