Samba for QNX with Windows XP and NT 4.0

We are setting up a Samba server running under QNX. We have the Samba
software installed and configured. But, we must have missed something.
We can get the Windows 95 & 98 computers to connect but no the NT and XP
systems.

We have run the Diagnosis.txt procedure. We get all of the way down to
the:

net view \samba_server

At this point we get a error:

System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied.

The Diagnosis.txt recommends several possible ways to fix this problem.
One of those ways is to add the Samba_server IP to the LMHOSTS file. We
have done this. But, still we get the same error.

Has anyone seen this before? Anyone got a suggestion?

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Not sure about NT but attached smb.conf works fine with Windows
95/98/2000/XP.
Note: server was configured to avoid been elected as a master browser so
don’t forget to switch on the following global options:

local master = yes
preferred master = yes

if you wish to run samba server as a master browser. Also fix “remote
announce = 192.168.100/24” to your network address. Hm… well, and security
is done at share level (“security = share”) but anyway qnx samba 2.0.7
server appears with no problems inside workgroup which is enough for me

Check Passwords.txt in the Samba docs/textdocs directory. It explains that
NT uses encrypted passwords by default. There is an NT4-PlainPassword.reg
file in the docs directory that will cause NT to use unencrypted passwords.

Thanks Ian,

I did install your smb.conf after modifying it for our site… When I run a NET
VIEW \SERVER from the Windows XP computer I get a 1727 error number returned.

I have not been able to locate the meaning of this error.

Got any ideas???

Thanks again,

Larry

No, i don’t know this net’s error code

Can you post me log.nmb and log.smb files ? They are generated by nmbd and
smbd and should contain all errors this servers found.

Thanks again,

Larry
