I’m having a problem using LPD and a networked printer. The printer
is an HP Laserjet and the print server is an Axis 540. I’ve got lpd
up and running and I can send a text file to the printer to be printed
out. The problem is that it sits in the printer’s buffer until
another print job from a windows computer comes along, and then the
text file will actually get printed. If anybody has any ideas, I’d
appreciate the help.
Thanks,

Some printers expect a D as an “I’m done” if it’s a postscript
job, although I don’t think the HPs need that.
If it’s PCL and you are not sending a full page and don’t send E
it will behave like this.
If it behaves properly when hooked up parallel or serial then forget
what I said…
