pccard driver

Has anyone had any problems with the QNX4 pccard driver? I’ve got a Toshiba
laptop and a supported 3Com CardBus PC Card. The driver detects the card but
the Net.ether driver comes up with an initialisation error and a MAC address
of 000000000000.

Any ideas?

What is the output when starting ‘Net.ether905 -vvv’. Please also post the
output from ‘show_pci -vv’ with pccard running and the network card inserted
in a slot. Is the bios on your laptop set to ‘CardBus/16bit’ for pccard?

I followed the instructions in the README.pccard file and sent all of the
info to qnx4support@qnx.com but here it is.

The error I got was an initialization error 4 and the bios was set to
CardBus/16bit.

I followed the instructions in the README.pccard file and sent all of the

The error I got was an initialization error 4 and the bios was set to
CardBus/16bit.

Hi Hugh

I’m working with the pccard archive dated April-2002. (yeah, I didn’t
to rush into anything. I have a Toshiba Sattelite with the CardBus
controller.

The good news is that it works. Thanks!

But, it only seems to see my network card when it’s in the top slot
(which it calls slot #2). To be honest, all I ever wanted was to get
my stinking network card working with QNX4 and it works just fine.
So I’m really very gratful. (Actually, this laptop is already considered
nearly obsolete, so I’m not looking to stick a bunch more stuff on it.)

But, if you feel that it should be working in both slots and you want
to try to look at it, let me know what info you want.

I’m working with the pccard archive dated April-2002. (yeah, I didn’t
to rush into anything. I have a Toshiba Sattelite with the CardBus
controller.

The good news is that it works. Thanks!

But, it only seems to see my network card when it’s in the top slot
(which it calls slot #2). To be honest, all I ever wanted was to get
my stinking network card working with QNX4 and it works just fine.
So I’m really very gratful. (Actually, this laptop is already considered
nearly obsolete, so I’m not looking to stick a bunch more stuff on it.)

But, if you feel that it should be working in both slots and you want
to try to look at it, let me know what info you want.

If you can do the following, with the network card inserted in the socket
that doesn’t work and post the output, it would help.

  1. slay pccard
  2. pccard -vvv 2> file
  3. show_pci -vb3 >> file
  4. slay pccard
  5. post the output ‘file’

Will do. I also just noticed that even the socket that does work
doesn’t work after a soft boot. It must be power cycled.

OK. This was after a frest power up and with my network card in the
socket that doesn’t work.

BTW, there was also a message about a time out at what looked like 1
second intervals on te console.

Will do. I also just noticed that even the socket that does work
doesn’t work after a soft boot. It must be power cycled.

To eloberate just a little further, it doesn’t work after booting from
Windows. It does work after soft booting from a working QNX session.

But the other slot (#1) doesn’t work ever.

OK. This was after a frest power up and with my network card in the
socket that doesn’t work.

BTW, there was also a message about a time out at what looked like 1
second intervals on te console.
