Non TCP/IP use of ethernet between windows and qnx

Hi,
We make QNX4 based boxes that we put in vehicles, and these boxes have
ethernet hardware and the QNX Net package as part of their OS loads. We
did not buy the TCP/IP package for these boxes, however. That means
that we can talk to them via ethernet from other QNX systems, which is
great for file transfer and testing, but only as long as there are other
QNX machines available. What we would like is something that we can run
on a windows (Windows 95 and later) laptop that can talk to the QNX
boxes in a non IP protocol for at least file transfer but hopefully for
some message passing as well. Any suggestions?
I saw a product called “DQNET” from Cynosure in the third party
listings on the QNX web site that may do what I want, although it seems
to be geared to DOS. If anyone has any experience with this product I
would appreciate hearing what your opinions of it are.

Thanks,

Mark Faust

Under QNX you can use the netraw package to talk directly to the
ethernet driver. I believe that under Windows you can do something
similar. This would allow you to develop your own (probably simple)
protocol.

In the days before ethernet dominated the world, you would probably
worry that your custom (over ethernet only) protocol would be a
hinderance, but today it is unlikely to be a problem.
