Qnx on DEll Laptop

We are trying to install QNX 4.25 on DELL Laptop, the model & specs are as
follows:

MODEL Name : Latitude C610/C510

MODEL No. : PP01L

Manufacturer : DELL

Specification : PIII 1GHz 512MB 20GB

HDD Controller : IC25 N020ATCS04-0

We are able to install the OS without any problem. We are installing it in
first partition itself. But it is not booting from Harddisk.

It is stopping at

“press ESC to alternate boot …”

Even if we press ESC it is not booting.

If we boot from a bootable floppy we are able to Boot.

Can anybody please tell us how to rectify this problem so asto boot from
Harddisk.

Vasdev,

It looks like you have installed QNX outside of the 1024 cylinder range, try
installing it closer to the front of the disk. What size partitions do you
have on your laptop?

I’ve had plenty of experience installing QNX 4.25 on Dell Laptops (Model
C840, Older Inspirons)but I’ve always had a Windows partition in front of
the QNX partition and I use the BootMagic boot loader to boot to either
Windows or QNX. I don’t know what is causing your problem, nor will the
suggestion I’m about to make solve it, but you could always try a different
boot loader and see if that will give you a work around.

Have you checked you BIOS for what type of translation is enabled? Check if
LBA is on or perhaps your bios has a “legacy” mode which you need to enable.

And I have plenty of experience with modern Inspires. In fact, just last
week I received a new 4150.

I have always used the QNX boot loader. No problem so long as the boot
partition (actually just the .boot file) is within the first 1024 cylinders.
With drives that report a very large number of cylinders, possibly the best
way to ensure that QNX is living within the 1024 limit is to create a very
small boot partition which mounts (as “/” – the root) a larger partition
containing everything else.

Stoopid spelling checker! I wrote “Inspiron” and it insisted on
“correcting” (hah!) it to “Inspires”.

Now, if I can only defeat it to post this follow-up.
