QNX4 Support Policy

I came across this by accident today. I did not see an official announcement
anywhere, so I thought some other people might have missed it too:
http://www.qnx.com/support/sd_qnx4.html
I can’t say this comes as any surprise, but it is disappointing nonetheless
to see it in writing. I hope the legacy support is better than it was for
QNX2 or QNXWindows.

will be continued till year 2005 (AFAIK).

Yeah. Back in 2000, QSSL issued an official statement saying that there
would be no new drivers for QNX4 after the end of 2002. Until now, I
have been operating on that assumption. This is indeed good news.
Personally, I want to go to QNX6, but pragmatically, changing a product
line like ours (a DCS) takes a long time.

I’m wondering how many people are still using QNX4?
I guess more than QNX6?

Well, IMHO that’s not so bad news. I would say even good. At least support
will be continued till year 2005 (AFAIK). Key components kind of new
hardware support is theoretically assumed. At least for Network and Photon
hardware. Good. Tcpip5 is also listed as a supported product. Very good.
Kernel isn’t supposed to be changed any more. IMHO very very good. What’s
else ?

So QNX4 community people have at least three years and time will show does
it worth it or not.

I’d like to say thanks to QSS team for releasing this information for public
domain. Now i know what to expect.

I think that even QNX2 is still used. It is no miracle,
since migration e.g. from QNX4 with QNX Windows to QNX6
is almost not possible. Just only filesystem is the same.
Moreover, sometimes it is even advantage to have limited
set of services - of course not for developers but for
(l)users.

I guess more than QNX6?
