QNX Windows new graphics driver beta

There is a new graphics driver solution for QNX Windows available in beta.
This driver supports the ATI Radeon cards ( a subset currently, more might
be added).

To apply for the beta go to this page, and select QNX Windows as the beta.
Note everyone has to apply as the password has changed since the last beta
(a long time ago).

QNX Windows 4.24 Patch B (Beta) Changes for Runtime April 11, 2003

/usr/lib/windows/bin/gr.generic

/usr/lib/windows/bin/gr.radeon

  • The is a new graphics driver for the ATI Radeon chipsets.

  • It includes support for the following chipsets:
    RADEON
    RADEON VE
    RADEON 7500
    RADEON 8500
    RADEON 9000
    RADEON 9700
    RADEON MOBILITY M6
    RADEON MOBILITY M7

  • To run this driver use the following command:
    WINGRAFX=gr.generic -dradeon -g1280x1024

  • See the use message for more information.

/etc/config/trap/crtc-settings

  • This configuration file is needed by gr.radeon.
    Copy this file to /etc/config/trap/crtc-settings.node
for each node that will use the gr.radeon driver.

We’ve tested the new driver, it is useable, however we have encountered two
problems:

  1. top line of the screen are highlighted (regardless setting sizes and
positions) on monitors Philips 107B3 - ve tested more pieces (but working
fine on Philips107S) - very strange, may be even problem the monitor type,
but no problem with gr.vga, linix or windows drivers.

  2. Tunnel mode partially works, e.g. pallete setting works fine, but e.g.
trend demo causes that after closing the tunel demo and opening and closing
full-size window, the trend will appear again on the screen. Also the demo do
not works correctly - but does someting.

Anyway we appreciate this QSSL’s job very much.

Did you copy the crtc-settings file to /etc/config/trap/crtc-settings.$NODE,
as per the release notes? (e.g. on node 13, the file should exist as
/etc/config/trap/crtc-settings.13).

If that wasn’t the problem, then you could try using a different refresh
rate (with -R) to try to work around the problem.

We’ll look into this.

Thanks for the feedback!

I have tested a new QNX Windows 4.24 Patch B with ATI Radeon 7500
chipset.

My card works fine under 800x600 resolution and (60/75/85 Hz refresh
rate). In 1024x768 display mode with 60 Hz screen is little shifted to the
left. When I set 85 Hz refresh rate screen is centered but isn’t stable -
sways.

The second problem is that my DVI output works only in text mode.

When I try to run QNX Windows system:

  • shows the following messages
    Starting graphics driver…
Starting QNX Windows Server on node 1 …
  • sets graphics mode and hangs at blank screen (at the moment card stops
generate signal: VIDEO INPUT - NO SIGNAL).

Does QNX Windows Patch B supports DVI output?

Problem with strange screen behaviour solved.
DVI output still doesn’t work.

Is there a chance that the new driver will handle DVI ?

Yes, there is a problem in the current version of the driver that is
probably causing this. We plan to update the driver…

We use this driver with GigaCube GC-R7000L-B3(REV 1.2) and we have a
problem. Sometimes (when mouse is move - often) we can see undulate on any
area of the screen.
Info:
Monitor Dell 1901FP

To run this driver we use the folowing command in sysinit:
export WINGRAFX=gr.generic -dradeon -g1280x1024 -R 60

By the way…
When we use this driver with SuperGrace R7500 and Gygabyte R9500 all is
Ok…
