I have a system that recently had trouble booting. The Pipe process
(apparently) failed with a “Could not create pipe” message. Or at least
I’m awfully sure that Pipe generated that message (if not, it was a
process very soon after).
Does anyone have any guess as to what could have caused this
intermittent problem (only happened two or three times, on the same
machine).

Actually, that is usually generated by something else, that needs to
create a pipe, but can’t due to Pipe not being around.

Most likely probably – you’re starting Pipe, and depending on
timing, just occasionally, it hasn’t finished initiatlizing
when something needs it – but most of the time, it gets done
fast enough.

My expierience: check, if you didn’t run out of fd’s (sin fd).
This happens to me, when a buggy process reopens a certain file a lot of
times (>2000) without closing it …
