Modem Isn't Recognised

I have an ISA hardware modem (US Robotics 56K) that is supposed to be
supported, but QNX RTP isn’t recognising it. This is a big disappointment
because the floppy demo had no trouble at all recognising it. Does anyone
have any idea how to make QNX recognise internal modems? I thought that QNX
would be better than BeOS in this regard, but obviously, it isn’t. Unlike
BeOS, however, QNX supports my Canon BJC-6000 printer! That was a big
surprise. However, it doesn’t support my Guillemot Maxi Sound Fortissimo
sound card, which is based on a Yamaha audio chipset. Does anyone know if
there’s a beta driver available for it? I would really like to have
sound…

Daryl

what com port is it on? ie what jumper setting did you use

My modem is on COM 2, 2f8, IRQ 3.

When I go back on QNX, I’ll try those commands, but I’ve tried inputting
other commands like it, but the OS would not respond with any recognition.
I figured that that might be because I am not ‘logged on as root’, but I
don’t know how to log on like that if that is the problem…

At the logon screen, enter root as the user, then the password you
entered for root during the install.

Try to slay the serial driver and start it up with your settings

slay devc-ser8250
devc-ser8250 -u2 2f8,3 &

Thanks, but I got it working yesterday. I don’t understand, though, why it
didn’t recognise that COM port to begin with… Now, I’d be really happy
if I could get that Yamaha audio chipset driver (and a driver that would
support the TouchScroll feature of my touchpad would be great, too)!

When I logged back onto QNX, it forgot my COM port settings, so I had to do
that procedure all over again. Is there any way of making QNX remember the
correct settings so that I don’t have to do this every time I reboot?

Do you know the com/port/irq of your modem? If so you can slay
devc-ser8250 and start it manually. The following set com1 to port 3f8, irq4

slay devc-ser8250

devc-ser8250 -u1 3f8,4

see ‘use devc-ser8250’ for more info

how did you get it working? I have the same exact problem with the same

First, you must log on as root. You must then type the following into the
Terminal:

slay devc-ser8250
/sbin/devc-ser8250

According to Steve Topkins, you may configure QNX to do this each time you
boot up by creating the file /etc/rc.d/rc.local, and placing the above
commands into that file. I haven’t done this yet, but I am assuming that
one may use Notepad to do this…

no luck with that, I even tried creating a dev entry for each possible port
(just incase… I really would love to give QNX a run)

Their tech support has been really responsive though…
thanks for the response…
