@Home with QNX Problem

I think i’ve been talking about my issue in some other thread on this
newsgroup. But i’ll clarify again.
I’m a total newbie to all this stuff, but im definately trying to learn!

My prob is this. I have a cable connection (@home). I use a 3com 3c90X
Ethernet adapter and a motorola cable modem. I set the network cfg to
DHCP connect and put in the DHCP server i used in windows. Pressed
‘apply’ and ‘ok’ and it gives me an error code 2. I reboot, still no
cable. What’s odd is i cant change these settings to manual or another
DHCP value since every time it gives me the error and keeps the first
settings i set.
Another issue is the fact that my cable modem doesnt act properly in
qnx. My PC light on my modem doesn’t turn on, which probably means that
my modem doesn’t recognize my pc is on, whereas in windows it should be
on.

If anyone can help or at least gimme suggestions of things to try to get
my cable working, it’ll be great.
Thanks for the help…

Have you added your hostname as assigned by @home to the DHCP ID:
field? This is likely the same as your machine name under Windows.
You should only need to set the server value if more than one DHCP server
exists with different information for your host, which should not
be the case with @home.

You are getting error code 2 because you must be the root user to
change settings with phlip. The phlip process should not be setuid
root. If the permissions are changed to remove this then you should
get the appropriate dialog box when you try to run phlip as a
regular user. This will be fixed for future releases.

Someone else would have to comment on the network driver issue and
the modem not recognizing that the card is there. Mayby specifying
the connector=‘type’ to the driver would help if
your card supports more that one connector.
(see devn-el900 for more details)

How do i login as the root user when i boot into qnx?
When i installed it only asked for my root password. Not a root user name.
Then it asked for a user name and another password. Would that be the root
user? If not what’s the login name for the root user? or do i just need the
password?

ah thnx…
well now that i got into the root login, i can set the network cfg.
i tried putting in the hostname and the default gateway, and it accepts it. But
when i reboot back into qnx my cable still won’t work =.
Any ideas?

Actually i got the Nicinfo running this time around. I’m not sure why i
didn’t get the first attempt going.
Anyhow it runs, but what does that do? It certainly can recognize my card.
But still my cable connection isn’t working. I e-mailed @home, and this is
what they said. “Shaw@home will work with virtually any OS as long as the
network card is
recognized. If the PC light is not on on the modem this means that the
network card is not being recognized correctly or you have a network cable
issue.”

Well technically my card is recognized by qnx. So is the problem with my
modem now??
i am still not sure…
Can definately use some advice/help/ideas here!! Thanks a bunch

Media Rate is 0. That means that for some reason it is negotiating the
link type with the modem. So, you need to pass the parameter
speed=10 into the driver. How is your network coming alive? You doing
it by hand or is it running automatically at startup?

Well I really dont have a network unless u are talking about my @home. Im on a

How would i past the speed into the driver (speed=10) ?

Try this for me Terence…

As root run the following commands…

slay -f io-net
io-net -del900 speed=10,verbose -pttcpip
netmanager

And post the output from each of these here.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Hi Chris,

Hi had a rather weird incident while running the 3 commands you told me to try running.
First off, the “slay -f io-net” command:
After trying about 10 times, i still didn’t get any output. So i ran the other
commands and still no output. I closed terminal, and re-opened terminal again. the slay
command gave me 3 lines of output
slay: /product/build/cvs/nto/net/io-net/x86/o/io-net 843790 on (tty not
known)
slay: /product/build/cvs/nto/net/io-net/x86/o/io-net 847903 on (tty not
known)
slay: /product/build/cvs/nto/net/io-net/x86/o/io-net 852000 on (tty not
known)
Then i ran the “io-net -del900 speed=10,verbose -pttcpip” command in terminal
Output:
#Found device:(10b7, 9000 at index 0)
Caps(a6). Card is 90x
media_options: e108
el900_init_phy: speed: 10000. duplex:0
Media Options: e108
Internal Config: 302d8
Then 'netmanager"
output:
nothing for the first 3 or 4 tries. Closed terminal and ran it again.
Output:
netmanager error : Could not set interface en0 state : no such file or directory
i got this output everytime i ran it.

Then i tried all the commands again after rebooting back into qnx to reassure the output i
got the last time.
slay -f io-net command did nothing for me here. I typed it over 20 times. Tried restarting
qnx, but still it wouldn’t give me output.
io-net -del900 speed=10,verbose -pttcpip worked fine though
Netmanager gave me a different output:
netmanager error : could not open socket : no such file or directory
i ran nicinfo right after i got that output, and not even nicinfo ran properly.
Restarted and this time got no output at all from netmanager and slay commands…
This is definately confusing me here…is this supposed to me normal?
or does that show my network card is having problems with qnx?

thnx for the help

-Terence

 Sorry if I confused you. “slay -f” will not print anything out, if you
want to see if it is actually doing anything do a “slay” alone and it will
tell you there is no process to slay or that it is slaying it.

io-net -del900 speed=10,verbose -pttcpip worked fine though

Netmanager gave me a different output:
netmanager error : could not open socket : no such file or directory

Did you try running it twice at this point? Sometimes you can start
netmanager before the socket device is ready. Try waiting a couple of
seconds after running io-net. Also, if you could try this again and when
you are all finished, do “ls -l /dev/io-net” and post the results?

ok well i tried all the commands again.
Netmanager still wont run or probably did run but no output at all. Tried doing it several times
already. Weird thing is everytime i run it, my modem pc light turns on, and then it switches back
off…
so therefore i guess connection still doesnt work.
ran ls -l /dev/io-net
output:
#ls -l /dev/io-net

The only other thing I can think of is making sure it is not full duplex.

Add a duplex=0 to the options to the driver.
