Memory Problems?

Have installed QNXRTP in a Windows partition – install seems to have gone
well (even found my printer on its own) – but, when I bring up qnx it seems
to be using up all my memory (160MB) according to the bargraph that shows up
with the shelf. Attempts to launch Voyager yield two types of errors (1)
not able to open, lack of memory and (2) and a comment about an interruption
of some type (memory in my head seems to also be in trouble!). During boot
up I also see a listing of four range errors, but not sure what that is
telling me. Unfortunately the help viewer also gets into trouble quickly,
so am unable to do much reading. Looked at several newsgroups and visited
qnx.start.com without finding this particular type of issue. Sure could use
some help in getting to the point of really trying out this OS. Also I
found a tip that suggested listing actual memory in the config.sys file, but
no luck so far with that. Dave Danforth

Check your CMOS options top see if there is something in it relating to
a `memory hole’. If there is, and it is enabled, turn it off.

Thanks – I had seen this before, but my Compaq says nothing about a
memory hole – however, I looked around again and found a setting
entitled “Reporting Alternative Memory” which was disabled, I switched
to enabled and that seems to have done the trick. If you don’t mind,
what is the concept behind a memory hole? Dave Danforth

It leaves a gap in address space below 16 MB where older expansion
cards (i.e. local bus cards) can map themselves in.
