Any suggestions for hassle free internal or external modems that will work
with rtp out of the box?
It will probably have to be either external or PCI, since I don’t have any
ISA slots available on this machine.
Just as a general rule, I always like to have an external modem so that
you can see the little blinky lights…
Any internal modem will have a chance of conflicting with your onboard
serial ports. An external will be guaranteed to use one of the ports
we already detected.
An ISA modem on Com1 or 2 (be sure to disable the com port on your
motherboard) or an external modem. Zoom makes good externals for a
reasonable price. Ask your ISP if they have any used externals. Most
smaller ISP’s that have been running for a few years will have HUNDREDS of
these… Ussually USR Couriers. These modems still cost $200 new, but you
can get a good used one for almost nothing!
