Installed base - now what?

Hello All,

I have installed the base QNX package on a laptop from the QNX CD onto a
clean partition. Now I want to install the extra packages but the Package
Manager is not letting me. I select view the CD archive and it just brings
up a dialog saying “Downloading Info” or something like that and just sits
there with a sin wave forever.

I am a very experienced Q4 user but this doesn’t seem to be helping me. I
tried the helpviewer and searched for Package Manager but nothing was found.
I check the utilities reference and found pkgctl but nothing else. So how
do I get it to recognize the CD again (it did it when it installed the base)
and let me install the addons?

Where do I submit bug reports, also?

If you can help, please reply.

Thanks,

Jim

P.S. Not that it means anything but the laptop has been running Q4 for a
year.

I had the same thing, try using the .altboot image (dma disabled) by hitting esc
at boot time. If that makes it work then just cp .boot .tmp cp .altboot to .boot
and cp .tmp .altboot

Done. I tried the alternate boot image but it does the same thing. Bring
up Package Manager, highlight CD-Rom Repository, click View Repository and
it comes up with a dialog box which says “Downloading repository
information…” and then just sits there.

Any other ideas? I can’t believe it is a problem with the laptop since as I
said it runs Q4 flawlessly and runs the Neutrino RTP base package and
installed no problem from the CD.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Jim

I have not had any problems with this, but as a last resort you
could copy the /repository directory to your hard drive. Then
under pkg-installer you could Add /whereever/repository as
your own repository.

Ok, I think I found out the problem. The CD in the laptop is now not
working. It worked to install the base but now for some reason has stopped
working. I rebooted it back into the Windows partition and no CD. So now
I have to figure out if my CD broke or if Neutrino did something to it
(unlikely).

Thanks for all the help and for now I’ll just use it on a pc.

Hi Jim!

I too was an experienced QNX 4 user, and it didn’t help me much either

Don’t worry… soon, you too will say `what’s vedit’?
