photon dual monitor problem

Hi all!
I recently installed qnx rtp. Photon supports dual monitors right? I have an
AGP Aztech TNT2 and a PCI Diamond Viper V330 (Riva 128). Both graphics chips
are supported. What do i have to do to get dual monitor mode working?

I hunted through the knowledge base etc, and I can’t seem to find much info
on it… did I somehow miss it? Any pointers anyone?

Hi,

At the moment the RTP doesn’t support dual monitors, but it can be done.

First aquire Patch A (pending release).

Then bascily follow this technote:

http://support.qnx.com/support/bok/solution.qnx?9490

Even though talks about Photon 1.13, it is usuable for Photon 2.0 as well.

Take care and good luck!

Erick.

Hi,

At the moment the RTP doesn’t support dual monitors, but it can be done.

bummer… oh well, no big deal: I can live with just one monitor. But
unfortunately, with the second video card in, there seem to be problems with
my single display.

My primary adapter is an AGP Aztech TNT2. When it’s in by itself I have no
problems whatsoever; I can use the TNT drivers, and any resolution/bit-depth
I want. But with the second card (PCI Riva 128) in alongside it, all I can
use is VGA (640 X 480 @ 4 bit). I can’t use either the TNT or VESA drivers;
if I do so the screen becomes totally messed up; kinda looks like a refresh
poblem but that can’t be it cos I set refresh to 60Hz. Btw, my installation
is through Windows.

Anyone know a way to get around this problem? Or am I doomed to 640 X 480 X
16 colours if I refuse to remove the second card? (I am very reluctant to
remove it cos I’ve gotten comfortable to using dual monitors under Windows).
Thanks for any tips, advice etc!

best regards,

Hi Tirath,

The next release of the RTP (formally “Patch A”) called “QNX 6” has a
new pci-bios that may help out the problem. How have you setup your
crt.[node] file?

Erick.

I’ve heard from the nVidia newsgroup that the Riva 128 based cards
are not “good players” in the multi monitor game. For instance I have
horrible OpenGL speed on my AGP Creative Labs 3D Blaster TNT2 Ultra.
Concensus was that the cause is my Riva 128 based STB Velocity 128 PCI.
What is weird is that Win98SE has 3D but not 2D DirectX acceleration
disabled on the STB card. Dunno how/why it should affect only OpenGL
on the AGP card. DirectX is blazing fast. But hey, SGI hasn’t updated
the OpenGL core files for Win9x since sometime in 1996 in their SDK
download. :stuck_out_tongue: Bleh. Perhaps a finger of blame can be pointed there, eh?
