cannot ping Default Gateway

i make no entry in the ‘Default Gateway’ field of the ‘Network’ tab in phlip.
i can ping 10.0.0.1, 10.0.0.3 …
i can ping me (10.0.0.2) from a local windows pc

i enter ‘10.0.0.1’ into the ‘Default Gateway’ field of the ‘Network’ tab in phlip, as this box is suppposed to be a gateway later on.
i can’t ping 10.0.0.1, 10.0.0.3 … any more
i still can ping me (10.0.0.2) from a local windows pc

i can access 10.0.0.1 (a Barricade Router/DHCP server) with my voyager browser, having filled in something into the ‘Default Gateway’ field or not.

why can’t i ping 10.0.0.1 ?

Thanks ! Helge

Check your netmasks… I had issues like this recently and the netmask was off i.e. I had it set to 255.255.255.0 and it should have been 255.0.0.0.

try “ping -n 10.0.0.1” and/or “ping -n 10.0.0.3”.

ok thanks, xtang, that one helped me very much.

the ‘ping’ was not the original problem though, but i stumbled on this on my way tracking down the problem. i had a nic that was pingable from both sides, host or client, but not ftp- or telnetable. i changed it and everything ok now, believe it or not !
