HELP, modem user in trouble :-)

As I said before, my modem is not working right with QNX. It is REAL
EXTERNAL modem, not controlerless modem. Dialer says Connection Failed,
qtalk wont do any help, cauze Im not able to write any command… I guess I
should explain this: When I start qtalk (qtalk -m /dev/ser1) it shows a
little table and underneath is command prompt, where I should write my
commands. The problem is, it does not accept any command. It simply does
nothing (IT DOES NOTHING AT ALL, you could press anything, it wont do any
change). Except for Ctrl+A.
Does anyone know whats the matter?

Are you sure the modem works?

Does the led on the Modem blink when you type?

If not are you sure you are connected to the right serial port (/dev/ser2
maybe)

Are you sure the serial port is working.

Are you sure you got the proper cable.

well, thats why im posting this message… My modem works pretty good in
Windows (and I must say again, its not winmodem, its Microcom DeskPorte 56K
Voice VideoReady modem all natural REAL modem made of real DSP’s and
transistors  and, whats really strange, sometimes I make him work (to be

make him work… DAMIT, Im going crazy )

I got the proper cable, the /dev/ser1 is working (I slayed him and restarted

cauze I cannot type any commands… the only thing I can do is in Qtalk
press Ctrl+A and select one of few commands. For example h for Hang-up
…and voila … TR LED goes off and again ON. Thats all, folks… But
still, Connection Failed, says Dialer :frowning:(

A few notes here. If your serial port connection is working correctly
you should see an LED blink every time you hit a key. I would just hold
down on something when you look because a single blink might not be
bright enough to see.

As to the modem doing nothing, you may never see any data from the
modem if it is not in ECHO mode and not connected. I recommend the
following Sequence:

ATS0?

Almost every modem on the planet will respond to this with a 3 digit
number “000” if not in Auto-answer mode. If you don’t see that,
and there’s no LED blink then either the serial link is not right
or your modem is broken or way to weird for mere mortal OS’s like
QNX.

If you “can’t type any command”, turn modem echo on first.
Run qtalk and type ATE1 even if nothing gets displayed yet. The
next command you type should be echoed to the screen by the modem.
(This is not the same as the qtalk’s “echo on” parameter.) You could
also try to turn the modem echo on “externally”, as some modems allow
settings to be done from their panel.

If you don’t get answers from the modem (neither numerical nor
text) in response to commands, try ATQ0. The QRTP dialer issues
ATZ first and expects OK (I’m not sure whether the numerical
equivalent, 0, would do). When you dialup, do you see the ATZ in the
dialer’s window? Is it followed by any reply from the modem? There may
be other settings (in addition to ATQn) that prevent replies from
showing up (e. g., ATVn, ATXn).

The ATZ command restores a modem profile (a group of modem
settings stored permanently in the modem’s programmable memory). This
profile may differ from the factory settings, usually recalled with
AT&F. You may need to save the new settings (ATE1Q0) in the profile
that is restored with ATZ. The usual commands to view/set/select
profiles are AT&Vn, AT&Wn, AT&Yn.

PS. What does the “fuk” word you’ve used mean in Czech?

ako

Well, when I get home, I’ll give it a try. The problem is I CANNOT TYPE
comands, or I do not see any response on terminal screen (I do not see my
commands, nor modem response). Normaly, when you press A, you can see A on
the screen… except for me, I cant see anything… And Im not blind

About that word “fuk”… Im not really sure where did you see me using it,
but anyway, “fuk” means nothing (should I say “fuk” does not mean
anything?), except for the sentence “je mi to fuk”, which means “I don’t
care”

In exchange: what does AKO mean?

The A is echo by the modem, if for some reason the modem isn’t respond you
won’t see the ‘A’. But in theory it is sent by qtalk. If you want you can
turn local echo on in qtalk to confirm qtalk did read the keyboard…
