SAMBA, SMB, CIFS, NFS

Hi!

I would like to setup QNX as a file server.

Can you please confirm that SAMBA=SMB=CIFS ?

What is the simplest way to setup a CIFS server?
What is the simplest way to setup an NFS server?

Is this described anywhere in the docs?

Thx!

Hi,

Have you checked the WNX Knowledge Base yet?

I followed the info in that link and it doesn’t seem to really work. I can
get the
commannd to run and it connects to my shared Win2k folder and I can see
all the files but QNX can’t seem to edit them or change them. Sometimes it
works but most of the time I get weird errors like ‘Cant change permission’
and sometimes it just sits there for a minute if I try to compile something
and then says “Can’t output *.o” or something. I turned on the -a option
to ignore that POSIX stuff but it doesn’t help. The logging just gives me
a “smb_write ( 327779 ) : Bad file descriptor” entry that keeps repeating
over and over giving me a log file of 31 meg or so…yuck.

Does this really work? I have been using Samba on my 6.0 but it
occasionally
locks up both my Win2k and QNX (yah, yah. just the mouse and video don’t
work…the kernal is still running…whatever). Samba usually quits once or
twice a day but I’m used to an end-of-day Windows reboot so no big deal.
I’m trying to recompile Samba 2.0.7 with RTP 6.1 so we will see how that
goes…

I was hoping the fs-cifs could take the place of Samba but it doesn’t look
like
it. So, I guess I will stick to using my Win2k code editing stuff and
creating
the code on my Samba share and then using a telnet or phindows to actually
compile it on QNX…not too bad…

I want the QNX machine to be a file SERVER not a CLIENT.

fs-cifs and fs-nfs are for making QNX a client that mounts remote file
systems.

I want the QNX machine to be the remote file server that some other client
will mount.

Thx!
Alain.

To set up NFS start Nfsd and edit /etc/exports to explicitely list
the resource you want to share. This is well documented in the only help

Other option is to run a SMB server; samba. You can find it
at www.qnxstart.com
