Lockup when installing.

I’ve posted this on the installation newsgroup but didn’t get any really
helpfull responses.

I’m trying to install the most recent release of RTP. I’ve been able to
install all the previous releases on an older machine, but this one just
isn’t working for some reason. Whether booting from an install floppy or
from the CD, I get a number of … (about 3/4 of a full line) and then

Shutdown[0,0] S/C/F=11/1/11 C/D=ff80e517/ff841050 state(c0)= now lock
[0] PID-TID=1-17

That last 1-17 might actually be 1-12… I’m having a hard time reading
my handwriting.

The machine is an SMP system (2 1 gig. Pentium IIIs), with 640 Megs of
RAM.

Any ideas what I can do to get this working?

I didn’t crosspost till it was obvious I wasn’t going to get a helpful
answer on the installation newsgroup… And even then I only posted to
two other newsgroups, both of which seemed appropriate for the situation.

Any chance that QNX has some comment on my problem other than “please
don’t crosspost”?

Cross posting is considered bad “netiquette” regardless of the number of times
(2x or more). AFAIK, most people who read news groups on a regular basis will
not respond to cross-posts.

If you can provide more information about your system, like how many CPUs
, what kind of system (brand/model) etc. Have you tried using just one CPU to
see if it’s the SMP causing the problem (most likely). There will be a patch
coming out for QNX 6.1 that fixes some SMP issues, so you may want to wait
for that.

Well the crash is an SMP problem, how many

My apologies… I’m not nearly as patient as I should be.

I’ve been continuing this discussion on another newsgroup and passed
along the info about my system (VIA KT133A chipset, dual pentium IIIs at
1 gig each, 640 megs of ram, etc.). I think at this point I’m just
waiting for the patch to 6.1.0 that’s supposed to fix some SMP issues.

Will this patch include a new ISO or floppy to boot off of, or will I
only be able to apply it to a working system (which would, of course, be
a problem since I don’t have a working system)?

It will first appear as a patch archive you can install on a booted system.
Try booting with only one CPU to get up and running, apply the patch, then
reboot.

Just as a followup: I pulled out one CPU and installed RTP 6.1.0
without any problems… After throwing the 2nd processor back in, I
rebooted and, as expect, got the same Shutdown error message when
booting. At that point I pulled out the other processor, rebooted, and
even built an SMP image. Rebooted (with the 2nd processor), and this
time the boot process just locked up, without any error messages.
Anyway, I assume that the patch will be announced when it’s made
available. I’ll install it when it’s released, cross my fingers, and
post the results here.
