Hi everyone. I hope I don’t sound TOO stupid, but I am as new as you can get
to “other than Windows” OS’s. I just installed QNX RTP 6.1, and I was
wondering how the heck I browse my CD and DVD ROM drives? I found how to
browse my hard drives, but the cd and dvd roms, as well as the floppy
drive - I JUST CAN’T FIND! Also, is it my understanding that this OS doesn’t
support PCI modems? If so, I guess I’m screwed, because my dial up modem is
PCI. My main connection is ADSL over PPPoA with an Alcatel SpeedStream USB
modem, but I’ve pretty much given up on any of my USB devices working in
this OS. My Epson Stylus Color USB printer, my Epson Perfection 1240 USB
printer, my Microsoft Sidewinder USB game pad, my RIO 600 USB MP3 player…I
guess I won’t be able to use any of them with QNX. I guess about the only
thing I can do in QNX is make text files! Anyway, if any of you experienced
people out there can offer any help, I would be greatly appreciative. Thank
you!

You should find your CD at /fs/cd0 or something similar.

The floppy device should be at /dev/fd0. You will probably have to
mount it using the “mount” command before you access it.
Also, is it my understanding that this OS doesn’t

You have it mixed up a little. The OS doesn’t support Win modems.
PCI or not doesn’t matter as long as it is not a Win modem.
If so, I guess I’m screwed, because my dial up modem is
PCI.
If the modem came with your machine, especially from a big
name like Dell or Gateway, it most likely is a Win modem.
Check the invoice and if you paid less than $30.00 for it,
you probably have one of these brain dead creatures. You
are not screwed however. You can go out and buy either an
external modem, or and internal hardware modem and replace
it yourself. While more costly than a Win modem, you should
have no trouble finding one under $100.00.

Good Idea. Most ADSL modems provide an Ethernet connection, which is
yor best bet. I think that PPPoE is not available, but check first.

The printers might work. I haven’t gotten my HP to work over USB yet, but
it should. I don’t know what you would do with the Sidewinder unless
QUAKE III has support. You’d need software to connect the MP3 that
probably doesn’t exist for anything but Win/x

Hi Odie,
At this time you can’t play DVD’s.
