A Real Big Idiot - Newbie

I was wondering if any serial modems can and will work under QNX RTP?

Also Why some devices dont work, or dont have any support?

Are there games available for download?

Israel

Any external Hayes compatible modem will work with QNXRTP.

Its not a general purpose operating system catering for the mass market.

Stay with Windows if you want to play games or get an Xbox/Playstation

Now Rodney, it’s not that bad. Not only do we have several card games, etc.
in Photon, we have Doom and (if you have a Voodoo card), Quake III and
Unreal Tournament. Cards and Frags, what more could you want? Note that
any ‘real’ (not software modem or “winmodem”) should work with RTP and we
also support some PCMCIA modems.

All right I must admit that I over simplified the modem situation, what I
should have said was it will support almost anything except internal
(software based eg winmodems) modems.

I stand by my games position, but it might be my bias against first person
shooters. Where are the driving - flying - riding simulations (games) and
the more cerebral strategy games.

When I am using qnx I am in my serious mode, when in Windows no one could
be serious

I like to think of “making a living using QNX (4.25 or 6.x)” as a fairly
cerebral strategy game…

Unfortunately, QNX isn’t really aimed at the desktop. Lord knows Linux has
an order of magnitude more desktop installations than us and even Lokisoft
couldn’t make it porting popular games to Linux. Sad but true, it looks
like games are the domain of the Windows world for the forseeable future.
Unless someone wants to put together and sell a QNX based console. Hey

I’ve been around since long before all these fancy 3D graphic card and all
that crap.

I can remember some amazing TEXT MODE games that required you to actually
THINK instead of hitting a mouse button 4217 times a second.

OK. Who’s been around over 20 years that hasn’t taken the text.txt file
from Adventure and edited it to use the names of co-workers and places in
your own community. Or what about the taking the same game and editing the
text.txt file to represent sexual situations.

I had a networked version of ‘Clue’ for QNX 4. It didn’t require any
graphics and it was great to leave running on a console while you and your
co-workers were supposed to be working.
