how to install packages...

Hi everybody…
Well I have downloaded some programs for QNX from Tucows…

  1. Abiword abiword-0.99.5.qpr
  2. mqc mqc-1.0-x86-public.qpr
    etc…
there are some more programs also…one thing common to all of them is they
    have extension *.QPR
These are packages…right…or i downloaded some thing wrong.

U see i connect to internet with my QNX on coz my Network card is
supported. So I dowloaded packges (when i use windows) from the internet
(www.tucows.com) …then I log on to QNX as root and copied the files to
/pkgs/repository/archive/ but the package manger(Installer) wasnot
showing them. So where am i wrong.

I have also downloaded GCC form qdn.qnx.com .Am I supposed to build before
I use it. i already have gcc (djgpp - dos port of gcc) in my system.Should I
use that to build it .

Any help will be appreciated…thanx in advance…

Hi Pradeepto,
QPR is QNX Package Repository. That’s correct.
To install package use command line in pterm:

pkg-installer -ufile:///path/to/file.qpr

or Click “Add” repository button in GUI of Installer and enter /path/filename.qpr to file. The
result will the same for both cases, Installer will download package information and show you the
screen about package. Then read the description, mark check boxes and click “Install” button. You
must no manage the files under /pkgs. If you want to store package also in archive, just check
appropriate box during installation (it makes sense if you’re installing directly from web
repository, for instance ‘pkg-installer -uhttp:/blah-blah.com/software/coolpackage.qpr’, you will
have local copy if you’ll want reinstall or install to another computer later).
To install GCC just install “Development C/C++Toolset” from WWW-Repository or CD-Repository by
Installer.
BTW. There was anounce of Abiword 1.0 at www.qnxzone.com check out this site for link to new
version, it’s better
Best regards.
