(but Linux as the host OS survived
QNX is mentioned at vmware.com as not planned to be supported in the
nearer future…

Are you trying to say it’s usable?
Last time I tried it (6 months ago?), booting linux kernel under it
took something like 2 hours, on AMD k6-2/450. Yep, you got real
virtual computer. Virtually you have something to run other OS, but in
practice, no way.
