QNX Neutrino & BeOS R5 PE Boot manager (long...)

Hi all !

I’m going mad trying to launch QNX Neutrino with BeOS’s Boot manager !!!

Here’s my partitions list :
Primary master : 1 primary FAT32 partition with Mindows ME, 1 extended FAT32
partition
Primary slave : Pioneer 103S DVD Player
Secondary master : 1 BeFS partition, 1 QNX Neutrino partition.

I installed first Windows Me, then QNX Neutrino, booting from the CD, and
choosing to keep my current boot manager.
Then, BeOS into a fake partition (a 500 Mb file on my FAT 32 partition),
then created a BeFS native partiton to install BeOS on it.
Installed BeOS boot manager, declaring my 3 OSes : Wi ndows ME, BeOS & QNX
Neutrino.

Windows ME and BeOS work fine, but when I choose QNX in the boot menu, I
have the message : “Loading QNX Neutrino
Press Esc for alternate OS” and only 4 dots are displayed and nothing more
happens…

Does anybody know what I should do to get my BeOS bootmanager launching QNX
Neutrino ?

Thanks by advance !

J.C.

P.S. : sorry for my poor english, but I’m french…

I don’t beleive QRTP can boot from second IDE.

In case it does support booting in second IDE, maybe the problem
is that the partition is passed the 1024 cylinder?

I tried several times, including with my QNX partition starting in the 1st

cylinder of my HD, and nothing worked :frowning:(.

QNX by default, can’t boot from 2nd IDE.

You can, by the way, try this:

  1. Boot QNX from a floppy, and make sure your QNX partition on 2nd IDE HD
is mounted. (I supposed it is /dev/hd1t77).

  2. login as root and do this:

dinit -h -b -d 2 /dev/hd1t77

  1. reboot, and try to boot QNX from your OS manager/loader, see if
    you are lucky.

Otherwise, you need to patch the OS loader yourself, and I am not
sure if I supposed to tell people how to do that

I installed rtp onto a blank partition (physically between separate Win98
and Beos5pepartitions !), that ended at cylinder 1021 on the ide0 master
device. I used the qnx bootfloppy I made from the ISO-download CD. The
install was remarkably easy, I always chose to allow Qnx to use any
partitionspace and to use my existing primary bootloader. I assume qnx
installed a secondary loader on its own partition.
I then ran bootman in the Beos terminal and was able to successfully
select Win98, Beos and Qnx as options for booting. The one thing that made me
nervous was the garbled volume name that bootman displayed when it presented
qnx as an option, but you can name it anything.
bootman successfully booted all three systems.

Hey,

I’m familiar with the BeOS bootmanager. Looks like it is doing its job. The message “Loading QNX…” is the last thing it says before it transfers control to the bootloader on the partition you send it to. So, you need to figure out why QNX is not loading properly. The message press Esc for altboot… is the first thing QNX says when it’s Loading QNX Neutrinoloading. It’s locking up after that… Has QNX ever booted on this PC?

Cheers,
JLM
